When more than one heating mat is to be
used. |
ALL THE WIRES HAVE TO BE CONNECTED TO THE
THERMOSTAT.
It is called "parallel connection" as opposed to connection
type called "in series" which would mean than one mat is
connected to the next and so on.

WHEN CONNECTING MORE THAN ONE HEATING MAT OR
CABLE:
ONLY PARALLEL CONNECTION IS
ACCEPTABLE!
"In-series" connection is unacceptable since it would change
the resistance of the whole
system!
In fact EVERYTHING ELECTRIC in your house is connected parallel
(independent). Think of it as for instance a pair of nightlights by the
bedside. Each one is plugged-in independent of the other, so when she wants to
read he does not have to have his light on,
doesn't he?
In larger installations - when several mats are used - an
extra electrical box may be needed. Sort of like intermediary connection box
where all the wires from all the mats are connected (striped green with green,
blue with blue, black with black) and only the neat extension is run to the
thermostat.
The power to the floor heating is controlled DIRECTLY by the
thermostat and that's why the type of thermostat to be used is called "line
voltage thermostat" as opposed to low voltage (e.g. 12V or 24V)
Talk to your electrician about it.
Summarizing:
All the wires have to be connected to the thermostat.
