1.
How does a latex additive improve grout?
Most cement based grouts
are latex modified, meaning a dry latex is already added. Simply add water and
mix following the directions on the package.

- Latex makes the
grout easier to apply, stronger and more flexible. This is important property
when grouting radiant heated floor.
- Look for grout marked as "flexible".

2. Is it necessary to seal floor grout joints?
Cement grout is a porous material that can be stained by common
household spills or soil from shoes. Protecting the floor grout by
means of sealing it is even more important with floor heating
installed beneath, because mechanically removing stained or dirty grout after
couple of years of usage in order to re-grout could be more difficult: one has
to apply lot of caution while applying force not to damage the wiring if it is
installed right under the tiles. Therefore, grout sealers are very much
recommended. Silicone based are typical.
- After completing the new grouting - wait three weeks for the grout
to cure before applying a sealer.
- Re-sealing the grout is usually needed every 1-3 years.
